El Pueblo’s Latine Heritage Month
El Pueblo is MullenLowe’s Latine and Hispanic community.
In 2019, as a barely formed, scrappy group of primarily junior level employees, we took on Latin Heritage Month and executed as many initiatives as possible throughout the agency.
Did we take on more than we could handle? Probably. Did we pull it off anyways? Yes, yes we did.
It’s Latine, not Latino/a
We started by making our Latin Heritage Month genderless.
Being Latine
We asked all El Pueblo members what being Latine means to them and shared our answers as Instagram stories.
Agency Initiatives
We switched out all our coffee for Central and South American beans only and featured a special Latine Latte Menu.
We encouraged the agency to use our Latine restaurants catering list for the month.
We hosted Domino lessons and brought in three dance teachers to teach us Merengue, Salsa and Bachata.
La Galeria
As our main event, we hosted an evening of art, food and drinks to celebrate fellow Latin/Hispanic artists. The featured art included photography, fashion, mixed media, illustration and video.
To pull this off, our small group coordinated with artists across multiple countries, from the U.S. to El Salvador, developed posters and social posts for the event, convinced MullenLowe to buy us a mannequin and spent hours pretending to know how to accurately hang art on walls.
Featured Artists:
Vivian Sredni, Isabella Crespo, Jose Criales-Unzueta, María Bethania López, Julián Ruiz (15 Years Old!!), Mario Quiroz, Maridelis Morales Rosado, Augusto Silva
Special Traveling Exhibit:
Estelas de Maria, a portrait of Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria, by WBUR Reporter Simón Rios, WBUR photographer Jesse Costa and Boston Globe photographer Jessica Rinaldi.
Latine Streams
We closed out the month by sharing our favorite streams with the agency.
